My Milk is a Beverage

Milk is good for building muscle. Milk has been around for centuries.

Milk is a Beverage

Milk may be nature's drink and has been around for centuries, but the benefits are far from old. It turns out that all milk drinkers have a leg up on other folks. For starters, studies suggest that people who regularly drink milk tend to have healthier diets that are richer in nutrients. They are also more likely to be at a healthy weight. Milk drinkers may also have an edge when it comes to cardiovascular health, including blood pressure. In addition, no other beverage offers the same array of nutrients including calcium, vitamin D, protein and phosphorus, and has hundreds of studies supporting its link to strong bones. There is also emerging evidence that the nutrients in milk may play a role in reducing the risk of certain cancers, Type 2 diabetes, and metabolic syndrome.

Pasteurization

Pasteurization kills harmful microorganisms by heating the milk for a short time and then cooling it for storage and transportation. Pasteurized milk is perishable, requiring cold storage at every distribution point.

Dairy

Commercial dairy farming using automated milking equipment produces the vast majority of milk in developed countries. Dairy cattle such as the Holstein produce the majority of milk. 90% of the dairy cows in the United States and 85% in Great Britain are Holsteins. Other dairy cows in the U.S. include Ayrshire, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, Jersey, and Milking Shorthorn. The largest producers of dairy products and milk today are India followed by the United States, Germany, and Pakistan.
